cloth diapers

So Jon and i are debating if we should use cloth diapers or not......we have a lot of friends who use cloth and disposable diapers.....yesterday i was doing the math if we we're to use disposable from age 1 month to 6 months $540 and 6-12 months $360 that is $900 a year and that is not taxed its just ruff estimate! So even if i got the not as expensive cloth diapers i would save $400!!!!! I did go to one of the web sites and they did the math and theirs is a little more accurate and they did it for 2 children and even buying some new with the new child you would save $840 (when i did the price difference it won me over but when i saw their price difference it REALLY WON me over!!!!)
It will also depend on who watches our child, babysitter, parents, friends...(we will probably still use disposable for travel and when others watch our child)....In the end i think we are going to do it.....I have to wash Jon's clothes almost every other day any ways and after i have the baby i am going to go part time....so hopefully it will work for us!!
Jon also made a very good point that we can also ask for some for baby shower gifts especially since there is a shop at Valley Junction now! I'm going to try and go to one of their classes :) hopefully i can learn a lot from it :)
I think the one problem that i will have is that i like to be prepared.....i like to have things right away.....i have herd that you have to wait to buy a lot till you try them......so hopefully the class will let me test some out!!!
So of my friends have made their own wipes and made their own disposable wipes....i think i might also consider doing that too....Ruth Ann said that she spends about $1 compared to $5 a box of wipes.....I know that's not a lot but when you add it up it does add up :)

check this website out this website this is were i got some info from
Are there any other great ways to save money with kids or stores out there to shop for children's supply?

  1. I love going to kids' consignment shops- Once Upon a Child is great (there's one in Des Moines) and in Ames you've got to go to A Duck Worth Wearing- and they have some maternity clothes too, plus an upstairs for women's clothes. All kinds of good stuff, not just clothes, at those two! I'm also discovering Craigs List is great too- especially in the Des Moines/ Ames area (Sioux City doesn't always have too much). And garage sale, garage sale, garage sale. :) Cloth diapers are great- we love them!- but watch out, they can get a little addictive. :D
